A simple sandwich board sign offer actually worked!
It was Tuesday morning and the gang at Big Star Sandwich Co. had heard that Actor Liam Neeson was in the hood filming a new feature film called "Hard Powder" coming out in 2018. On a lark, they wrote on their sandwich board sign, "Liam Neeson eats here for free" on one side, and on the other, "Come in and get TAKEN away by our sandwiches". Known for their cute sandwich board quotes, they didn't think much of it and went about their day.
Lo and behold, but Liam Neeson himself walks into their shop about 6:30pm asking "Where's my free sandwich?" The staff were blown away, and although unfortunately he didn't actually have time to take them up on their offer, he wanted to thank them and take a photo with the sign.
They posted it across their social feeds and it went viral overnight. Local news outlets covered it quickly including The Georgia Straight, Vancouver Sun and Daily Hive. Throughout Wednesday and Thursday however the National Post and the CBC picked it up, as well as CNN, TMZ and Buzzfeed.
In fact the Big Star team has been bombarded with media requests all day, way to go guys, putting Downtown New West on the map!
So of course today's feature is "The Neeson" if you want to take a bite out of the story yourself... find Big Star Sandwich at 644 Columbia Street.
