Clean Eats & Treats in Downtown New West

Friday, February 2, 2018

While homemade meals are the best way to ensure you’re getting all the nutrients you need, eating out is part of what makes life fun. If you adhere to a certain diet or have allergies or sensitivities, there are still lots of healthy choices right here  in Downtown New West.

Feeling energized, healthy and happy is easier than you think! If you didn’t catch our last post on Health + Wellness in Downtown New West allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sidney Shindle. I am a holistic nutritionist, private chef, baker and former national level synchronized swimming coach! I am also the owner of Veritas Wellness, a nutrition and wellness consulting company right here in Downtown New West. Over the next few weeks I am sharing some of the most convenient and effective ways to help you feel your best in 2018, all here in beautiful New Westminster.

Whether you’re a long-time wellness guru or someone looking to make a few changes, these posts are meant to help guide you wherever you may be on your path to wellness.

Wellness Tip #3 - Eat clean, even when you dine out.

Whether you’re out for dinner or ordering in, you can find ways to order healthier options at many of your favorite restaurants. Having a look at the menu before going out for dinner is a great way to get a head start on your meal, making it easier for you to choose a healthy option instead of scrambling to choose on the spot. You can also easily create a nutrient-dense salad with add ons from the sides menu, omit unwanted bread or sauces you may not agree with. (Dressings and sauces typically contain a lot of added sugars and questionable oils like canola.) Many local restaurants are also able to switch out potatoes or fries for greens or serve your burger as a salad bowl. So long as you’re polite, most restaurants are happy to make some adjustments.

Here are a few stops for clean eats and treats with options for gluten-free and vegan diners.

Rain City Juicery
A cozy juicery with great house-made ginger beer. They offer to-go juices and growlers for those who want to take their green juice to go. Rumor has it they may be expanding their menu to offer nutrient-dense salads and snacks in the next few months. #saladinacup
