The 2014 Summer Ambassadors take you through everything you ever needed to know about the Downtown New West patio scene.
I don't know about the rest of you, but for us, the real sign that Summer has arrived is the re-opening of local patios. Nothing screams Summer like an ice cold beverage and a sun-filled seat. Lucky for us, New Westminster is home to many of these umbrella filled paradises!
Garden Patios:
The Met Bar & Grill - The Met's hidden and heated garden patio is cozy and quaint for those later dinners and drinks with friends. Featuring a large craft beer selection and 8 HD TVs (inside), you may want to make it your hideout for watching pay-per-view events this Summer.
Hops - Steps away from the New West Skytrain station, Hops harnesses all the coziness of Winter and northwest style, while also offering a great selection of beers and drafts specials. All of which can be happily enjoyed on their heated patio.
Water views:
Hub Restaurant - Hub takes Summer time very seriously, with a wide food selection and a sunny water-view patio, they offer Monday night patio favourite deals (2$ off!) as well as well-priced sangria pitchers and vegan/gluten free options. Can you say yum?!
Wild Rice - Wild Rice is a boardwalk favourite with stunning water views and a stellar new Spring menu. They have a series of Wild deals, such as Wine Wednesdays ($10 off bottles, $2 off glasses) and $4 highballs on Thursdays! So jump out of your comfort zone, and try something new this Summer (like maybe a braised Kangaroo steam bun).
Paddlewheeler Pub - Paddlewheeler Pub has a spacious and low-tempo patio, without the noise and excitement of the street. Patrons can sit and relax looking out onto the Fraser River. Although don't get too comfortable, every Thursday Paddlewheeler ups the tempo with Karaoke Night and every Saturday afternoon they feature a 'beefed up' meat raffle.
Boathouse - Boathouse understands Summer flavour, featuring yummy strawberry treats through June, oyster bars, Appy Hours and Daily Drink Features for only $5.99. Enjoy these treats while sitting on a riverfront patio, and enjoying the Summer sun.
Hustle and bustle street scape:
Judge Begbie's Tavern - If you're looking for a centrally located after work pit-stop, Judge Begbie's is your patio. Boasting fun and delicious drink specials such as the Moonshine Margarita, and the Capital Punishment, Begbie's is a Columbia Street must.
Stefanos Lounge - Are you feeling like some contemporary Mediterranean Cuisine? How about some wine and martinis? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then check out Stefanos' patio for lunch or dinner. I mean, comfortable ambiance, giant appetizer platters and a large wine collection, what more could you need? Plus, if you arrive on a Friday or Saturday you might just get to do a little dancing. Opa!
Taverna Greka - Looking for entertainment? Look no further, with live music on Tuesdays and belly dancers on Fridays and Saturdays Taverna Greka is your place. Taverna's patio is cute and comfortable featuring stylish surroundings and comfortable seating, so settle in with your food and get ready for the show.
The Heritage Grill Grill - Heritage Grill is offering a summertime hangout spot for all this Summer. Their patio is centrally located so you can sit back, relax, and watch the hustle and bustle of Columbia Street while enjoying your meal. They also offer free live music all Summer long, featuring a variety of entertaining acts (they even have a drag show!)
