The Best Canadian “Salad” at the Spud Shack

Friday, September 29, 2017

If you’re a sucker for crispy fries, warm gravy and ooey gooey chunks of cheese, Spud Shack in Downtown New West is the place to devour that plate of goodness.

The Spud Shack is rated #2 for New West Cheap Eats and #13 for New West Restaurants on Trip Advisor with 4.5 stars; if that isn’t enough incentive to go, then maybe one of their quotes will do it, “I got 99 problems but poutine ain’t one” or “make poutine not war.” With quotes like that, you know it's going to be worth that extra hour at the gym!

And there's no need to walk far because Spuds is conveniently located at Shops at New West inside the New West Skytrain Station.

Spuds has a funky vibe – dim lighting with red LED strips below the seats, small tables along a mirrored wall and Food Network playing on the TV screens. (It’s on mute so you can still have a chat with your foodie friends.) It almost feels like an underground lounge.

The friendly staff are always welcoming and quick with orders which makes for happy customers; place your order at the counter and you'll soon be in food heaven whether you eat in or take it to go.

Alright, now onto the good stuff! There is a huge variety of delicious poutines on their menu, from the original to butter chicken to the baked potato plus many more including vegan options. Their menu has other items like fish and chips, burgers and even fried pickles. Yummo!

But don't forget what's brought us here: the poutine! Each delicious order is large enough to share but there's no shame in finishing it on your own. Don’t forget to pair it with one of their beers on tap or a Jarritos, a delish Mexican cola.
