The Strong Side, not just another gym...

Sometimes we find exactly what we're looking for in the most unlikely locations, The Stong Side Conditioning Gym at 535 Front Street is one of those places.

TJ Sider, President of The Strong Side Conditioning has had a passion for health ever since he went through his own health scare as a teen, needing to lose over 50kg (120lbs!) to save his own life. Opening SSC was a response to many factors, the strongest being that there was no facility to meet his high standard in the area.

To find the location, TJ looked to the centre of the Lower Mainland and decided New West had great potential for his new business. And when he started looking closer at New Westminster, he was immediately drawn to Front Street, Downtown New West's hidden gem.

535 Front Street had the industrial aesthetic and storied history that fit TJ's vision perfectly.

After hard work to transform the interior from its old purpose, a beautiful space was ready in July of 2013 to welcome clients.

The Strong Side is a facility that views every person as an individual, with an interesting history and goals for their future. Information gathered from each individual is used to provide a personalized experience with programming, instructional training and supervision on the floor throughout all hours of operation, included in EVERY package offered. The staff at The Strong Side are not just your average personal trainers - they are coaches that come from different training backgrounds. This makes them a brain-trust that obsess over the details of your journey, which allows you to get the most out of every minute you spend at 535 Front Street. Pain recovery happens faster, goals can be achieved efficiently, and injuries prevented.

One of the secrets employed at The Strong Side is the fact that all coaches are trained in a diagnostic methodology called NKT (Neuro-Kinetic Therapy ). This is a non-invasive method for testing muscular function to determine cause and source of muscle pain / dysfunction. TJ did some NKT on myself (Maddi), and not only educated me on how my body compensates for weak muscles (causing me pain), but also facilitated the release of the dysfunctional muscles leaving me feeling amazing afterwards.

SSC offers free assessments to get started, (which are not a sales pitch), it's an actual comprehensive series of questions and movement/mobility tests to get to know you, what you're looking for and where you're starting. The opportunity for you is to learn about who these trainers are and what they do; how they are different; and things that you may not have known about yourself. A lot of times they find the sources of pain that people have been dealing with for years in this assessment. If nothing else, you learn a little about yourself - but if you stick around, that momentum continues and you start to do amazing things that you didn't think you could.

If you are looking to make a change, if you're tired of never getting the results that are promised, and if you are ready to have endless support and encouragement to get you to the next level - it's time to stop by and see TJ and his team. The environment at the gym is inclusive and fun while maintaining high standards and amazing results, which is a great credit to TJ's original vision and the team that he has surrounded himself with.
