09:30pm -10:30pm
Vancouver’s newest comedy golden boy arrives to chat in a black jeep covered in skateboard and Wu-tang stickers. A skater himself, Kennedy is undeniably…cool?
With the bar for quality set as high as his aspirations, Kennedy’s starting point (weekends at the comedy club) is most comedians end goal, but he is far from done. “I want to be able to work in the States as quick as I can.” (Another comedy goal that takes 10+ years.) “I want to buy a van and tour the whole country with my girlfriend.” A touring musician and DJ for most of his 20s, Kennedy is not one to shy away from the rock and roll dream. Now 31, his late start in the comedy game, usually a career killer, has only ignited his trajectory combining years of hands on indie production knowledge and deadly natural talent.
New West Cultural Crawl
All day
New Westminster has a fantastic artistic landscape that continues to evolve with every passing year. Join us as the festivities begin on Friday, August 11th, with a wine and cheese party (cash bar) from 5 pm - 7 pm on the third floor of the Anvil Centre. Enjoy a sneak peak at the high quality of art presented during the Cultural Crawl. An Opening Ceremony will be held at 6pm with remarks from local and provincial dignitaries. Volunteers will be on hand with maps and suggested routes to enhance your experience. Then on Saturday and Sunday the New West Cultural Crawl sprawls across New Westminster as arts and cultural facilities throw their doors open and welcome you in.
This two-day event on August 12th & 13th will include open studios where local artists feature their work and their creative process. Look for special events and live paint-ins at popular arts, culture and heritage destinations around the city.
The self-guided crawl is arranged in convenient neighbourhood clusters that showcase local art in galleries, theatres and historical venues. These neighbourhoods include Sapperton, Downtown, Uptown, West End, and Queensborough.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!
PRESENTED BY FIGHTING CHANCE PRODUCTIONS
Multi CTC and Ovation Award Winning Fighting Chance Productions is going on the road with their hit production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! Reviewer Colin Thomas says the show is a “freewheeling good time” and “a holiday in innocence”. This production won the Ovation Award for Outstanding Community Production (Small Theatre) as well as Outstanding Performance awards and nominations for most of the actors.
The musical was also the recipient of the TONY and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of potentially made-up words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
See the event's website above for more info and tix.

INTRO TO AERIAL HOOP & STATIC TRAPEZE

While a staple apparatus of the circus, in its own right, the Static Trapeze also instils in students a skill set that is integral to Dance and Swinging Trapeze. Once students become adept at using the Static Trapeze, they will progress to using the Aerial Hoop. The Aerial Hoop, also sometimes referred to as lyra or cerceaux, is a dynamic aerial apparatus that makes use of combined strength, flexibility, and creative movement, while static or spinning. Please note: We recommend that students registering in this class have completed a session of classes on Aerial Silks.
