I get them intravenously at Polo Health

IV Vitamin therapy is gaining traction in the naturopathic world, so I went to Polo Health to experience what the hype was all about!

When vitamins are taken orally, a large portion is lost in the digestive system and liver pathways. With IV vitamin therapy, vitamins are injected directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the liver and digestive organs, allowing more nutrients to be delivered safely into the body.

Since it was my first IV therapy session, I met with Polo Health's Dr. Gansner first for a consult. She showed me their diverse IV portfolio with different treatments available for different health goals.

Since Polo Health is located in an old bank building, the IV treatment room is literally right outside the vault! Each IV treatment is cleverly named in financial terms such as "Withdrawal" for addiction, "Insufficient Funds" for detox, "Return on Investment" for energy, and "Investments" for prevention, among others.

The standard IV vitamin 'cocktail' includes all the B vitamins as well as magnesium, calcium, and vitamin C. (this is what I got).

First thing's first, the dreaded needle. Personally, I don't really react to needles, but for all you trypanophobes out there (yes, that's a real word!), the needle was quite small, and didn't hurt a bit. My veins on the other hand seemed to be a bit squeamish and were hiding, so I did have to squeeze a stress ball for a few minutes first to get the blood flowing. I didn't mind though.

I was warned that I may feel tired and perhaps taste the B Vitamins during the therapy session, as those are common side effects. Fortunately I didn't taste a thing, and I was more relaxed than tired, thanks to the atmosphere. Once the IV is in, the lights are dimmed, the lounge chair foot rest is popped and the relaxing sound of classical music fills the peaceful air. There's also the option to watch television, but I stuck with the music. Many patients even use the 45 minutes to take a small nap, usually during their lunch break. Needless to say, time flies!

Although it's quite relaxing many people wouldn't voluntarily go through an IV treatment unless the benefits were fantastic. Let me tell you: it's worth it! Not only do you absorb 100% of the vitamins that are injected, but patients report greater clarity of mind, clarity of thought, and increased energy. I experienced these benefits as well as improved mood that lasted 3 whole days! I could feel my energy levels increase within an hour of treatment, and I was more than ready to conquer my weekend.
