Quick, Do These 4 Things Before Summer Ends!

Wednesday, August 26, 2020

It would be an understatement to say that this summer has been different and unprecedented. That said, it has led to some beautiful changes in Downtown New West that will let you enjoy the rest of the summer in a safe way! Read on to learn more about the top 4 things you can’t miss before the sunny season ends.

One of the best things you can do in this weather is to grab your walking shoes and stroll down Front Street on the weekend. To create more space and adapt to COVID-19 physical distancing requirements, the City of New Westminster agreed to close Front Street to vehicle traffic on weekends. Before it starts raining again, treat yourself and the dog to a nice long walk along the river.

Would you rather relax? Kick back on one of the temporary patios that have been constructed in the past few months to allow for a physically distanced, open air dine-in experience. Steel & Oak Brewing Co. has a lovely wooden patio with high bars and stool seating, and the sun shines right onto their lovely umbrellas during happy hour. If you’re not a drinker or you’re looking for somewhere to visit earlier in the day, there are also new public picnic tables outside the Columbia Street Sandwich Company.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions, the New West Farmer’s Market is up and running! Visit Tipperary Park for essentials between 3pm and 7pm every Thursday through October. The first half hour is reserved for seniors, disabled and immunocompromised individuals and those with small children. Keep in mind, there is a no-cash policy for the time being. Only debit and credit transactions accepted. Grab your favourites, stay apart, have fun and enjoy the sun!

Last but not least, grab a Vietnamese iced coffee from Hive Cafe and stroll through the city looking at the wondrous public art of New West. You’re bound to find gems you’ve never noticed before, all while caffeinating and cooling off with a new launch from Hive! If that doesn’t scream summer, we don’t know what does.
