Ready for Fridays on Front? Meet the Truck

Wednesday, July 24, 2019

Funky, proud, & fun; three words that come to mind when standing in front of Vancouver’s new shamelessly Filipino food truck: Shameless Buns.

Cooking up Filipino eats in a bright, multi-color jeepney (inspired by the iconic and kitschy public transportation vehicles that fill the streets in the Philippines), we got to talk to the couple behind one of the hottest food trucks of the summer to learn more about their new venture and their passion for food.

The team

Matt, Corvette and the rest of the Shameless Buns crew in front of their playful Jeepney.

Shameless Buns started in the team’s kitchen, where co-founder Matt would make sandwiches using toasted pandesal and crispy longanisa sausage. This perfect combination of the subtly sweet and pillowy soft bun with the saltiness of the sausage created the perfect sandwich (now featured on their menu as the “little sausage”). Their discovery was a game changer, and after experimenting some more, Shameless Buns was born!

Not only did they want to celebrate co-founder Corvette’s heritage and share their love of Filipino food, but they “really saw an opportunity in the food world with Filipino food because It's not really a cuisine which has been highlighted yet”. Their menu plays with classic Filipino ingredients, and highlights the unique and interesting flavours of this complex and diverse cuisine. Almost everything they use is made in house, including their amazing banana ketchup, which is made up of 23 different ingredients and lends a smoky, spicy and sweet flavour to their dishes.

With dishes like their “jacked up coconut fries”, “not your ‘Lola’s chicken adobo” and their “spam fries”, they aren’t planning on stopping anytime soon with several new menu items in the works.

Come try out Shameless Buns in Downtown New West on August 23rd at our LAST Fridays on Front, and join us every Friday before then for more delicious eats and treats!
