There is lots going on in the world, so we’ve taken a little time to think about what we’re grateful for this thanksgiving season. For us, that’s the amazing businesses of Downtown New West. Join us in supporting them, show them some extra love this Thanksgiving. #Thankathon2020
Thankathon: A Community Gratitude Challenge
Thankathon 2020 is a 7 day community gratitude challenge for the week leading up to thanksgiving weekend produced by the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce and the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
Even though this pandemic has created many hardships for people, there are still things we can be grateful for and gratitude is a powerful antidote for feelings of stress and anxiety.
The challenge is simple, publicly thank someone who makes your community great between October 3rd to October 9th using #Thankathon2020 on social media. Do it once or go for a 7 day streak!
They suggest thanking your favorite local business, that “Extra Mile” front line worker or a community member who has really stepped up during this crisis. And if you use the specified hashtags you could be entered to win some amazing prizes. Visit https://thankathon.ca/ for more info.
There are plenty of other ways to support and participate including streaming their nightly programming at 7pm, watch interviews from local business owners and bid on silent auction items, find out more here.
The Best of the Season
Thanksgiving is harvest time, and thus the traditional turkey spread. Your favourite Downtown New West restaurants are putting their own spins on this tradition and taking all the work off your to-do lists. Make sure you order or reserve in advance!
This Columbia Street cult favourite is offering 5 different boxes for pickup, feeding 3 to 4 people, and each with a unique take on thanksgiving. Our favourite is the turkey finger foods box with sweet & spicy turkey meatballs, honey-mustard brussels sprout slaw and other amazing appies. Or try the Breakfast Thanksgiving box which can be vegetarian or vegan upon request. Order your boxes online at least two days in advance with pickup times from October 9th through 12th.
Offering dine in and takeout options, this is a no fuss experience that’s going to please even the pickiest of mother-in-laws. Reserve now to dine in, only $30 per person gets you turkey and all the fixings. Or pre-order your thanksgiving to go with a family pack including turkey, garlic mashed potatoes, cranberry sage stuffing, roasted vegetables, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, dinner rolls and your choice of pie, serves 6 for $175.00. Order by October 6th for pickup on October 11th or 12th.
El Santo is offering 2 Amaranthus-inspired Thanksgiving feasts that include all the fixings as well as simple heating instructions for pick up. Both options generously feed 4 with a high probability of leftovers.
For $150 plus taxes, the carnivore option features an achiote rubbed turkey galantine with sides including house made chips and salsa, fried brussels sprouts with gremolata and pumpkin seed hummus, creamy mushroom risotto, crispy potato pavé, and golden churros paired with a decadent dulce de leche. And for those who miss Amaranthus, Chef Sam has also created a vegetarian version of the Thanksgiving spread at $95 that includes a caramelized sunchoke terrine, fried brussels sprouts with gremolata and pumpkin seed hummus, coffee roasted beets with pickled beet stems and a beet top chimichurri, crispy potato pavé with rosemary and thyme, creamy mushroom risotto, golden churros.
Add on their tequila margarita kit to make it a party. Order by October 8th at 1pm, and pickup on October 11th between 2 and 5pm. Dine in options available too, see their Instagram for more info. Email email@example.com or by phone at 604-727-8176.
