Our profile of the oldest business on Front Street, and the most eclectic shop in Metro Vancouver...

They've been located at 605 Front Street for 13 years and in business for going on 25 years, under various disguises and permutations.  They call themselves generalists which means they sell pretty much everything: vinyl records, books, musical instruments, glass, china, military memorabilia, orientalia, antique to Danish Modern furniture, books, have a great funky hardware department much utilized for Movie Props, vintage and antique photographs, gramophones, vintage electronics and stereo equipment, modern and antique paintings, silver plated flatware, native art, costume jewelry.  You name it, if it existed 40 + years ago they probably have it, so yeah, generalists.

Talking with the owner Craig, I am so immediately impressed by his genuine interest in the stories behind the products, he loves to hear and retell these stories often, the history of each item, why and how it ended up here and where it could end up in the future. Even just fantasizing about the possibilities brings a fun sense of wonder & adventure into the browsing experience.

They buy Estate Items and make House Calls throughout the GVRD too, with a consistent revolving door of product, so always worth browsing to see what's new.

I love browsing the vinyl collection, I know it's become trendy (read: expensive) to collect vinyl these days but Craig keeps things pretty reasonable.

When I first moved to New West 15 years ago, I furnished my apartment with many big pieces from Antique Alley, and have very fond memories of the gritty feel of the street and the variety of shops.  My style may have evolved somewhat and the street certainly has transformed over the years, but I still love to browse through the decor items looking for a unique find (or a great deal to brag about).
