Ron Vaudry, was born 1956, looked around and said, “You can’t be serious!” Never the class clown, but rather making fun of the class clown, Ron found his niche.
Finding the opportunity to perform on stage for the first time in 1979 on labour day weekend in a small club in Montreal for the Jerry Lewis Joke-a-thon.Twelve noon to twelve midnight, all proceeds going to Muscular Dystrophy. “Good deposit in the karma bank!”, he thought. Performing twelve sets that day, the hook was set and he never looked back.
Quickly becoming a forerunner on the Canadian comedy scene. Ron has appeared on numerous television shows in Canada, The United States, and the UK, as well as many of the top Comedy Festivals around the world. An uncompromising master in his field of hard hitting social and political satire, Ron’s reputation as a comic’s comic has not detered audiences from enjoying his unique comedic perspective around the world,

06:30pm -08:00pm
Brought to you by the Craft Cafe, held at Wild Rice
Paint and Sips are a popular way for all skill levels to get creative while being social. We have for you a unique twist: Ink & Drink - a monthly series where projects will be based on ink.
For the January session participants will have the opportunity to try out monoprinting while enjoying some refreshments. Not familiar with this art form? Monoprinting is basically a method for creating one of a kind images - unlike other types of printmaking where multiples can be easily reproduced. Sound interesting? Grab some friends (or make some new ones) but be sure to register early as space is limited!
The ticket price covers your materials to participate, a beverage (non-alcoholic options available) and some light appetizers. If you have questions feel free to call us at 604-525-0760. Registration can be done through Eventbrite (event's website link above), by phone, or in person at Craft Cafe.

Read MoreCory Michaelis @ Lafflines
08:00pm -11:30pm
According to a bunch of girls he’s dated, Cory Michaelis will shock you with some of the things he says but do it in a way that you’ll still find him charming. He talks about his high school sweetheart and former wife, his new girlfriends, and his unique day job and co-workers in a way that he wouldn’t want any of them to hear. Cory just recorded his first comedy special “Collage Graduate” – 40 minutes of squeaky clean material – in Provo, Utah at Dry Bar Comedy.
He is a regular in all of the clubs in the Pacific Northwest, Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas, and headlines comedy clubs, casinos, colleges, and weird bars all over the country. He has been invited to the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, Oregon, the Limestone Comedy Festival in Bloomington, Indiana, and headlined the Idaho Laugh Fest in Boise. He didn’t win the 2013 World Series of Comedy (semi-finals), the 2012 Seattle International Comedy Competition (SICC), the Washington Comedy Festival (semi-finals), the 2014 Tacoma Comedy Contest (2nd), or the 2016 Laughing Devil Comedy Festival in New York City (finals) but he took another crack at the SICC and made the 2014 finals. And Louie Anderson (who he has opened for in Vegas multiple times) says “you’re funny, why do you always make fun of Roze?” – come see what Louie’s talking about.

The Pipeline Project: Politics is About to Get Personal
All day
WRITTEN BY: SEBASTIEN ARCHIBALD, KEVIN LORING AND QUELEMIA SPARROW
The Pipeline Project is a provocative and personal account of the ongoing cultural battles over pipelines in BC. Three actor writers – two Indigenous and one white – come together to create a play about the political conflicts surrounding Canada’s oil industry, confronting their own prejudices and hypocrisies along the way.
Premiering last year to rave reviews and sold out houses at Richmond’s Gateway Theatre, The Pipeline Project is not only an investigation into the growing conflicts between BC First Nations and the fossil fuel industry, it is an evocative exploration of Reconciliation, environmentalism and first world privilege.
The second act is a Talk Forward. Each night a different guest speaker will respond to the play and then participate in a facilitated conversation with the audience. Guest speakers for each performance are:
January 24 1pm Alexis Stoymenoff (Vancouver Observer & West Coast Environmental Law)
January 25 1pm – Jennifer Deol (Social Justice advocate)
January 26 7:30 pm Caleb Behn (Eh-Cho Dene & Dunne-Za/Cree, Keepers of the Water)
REVIEWS
“… offers an encyclopedic array of arguments, cleverly and vividly theatricalized.” – Jerry Wasserman, The Vancouver Sun
“Intelligently directed and beautifully staged … there is passion and commitment in this show.” – Jo Ledingham, On The Scene
“… A sincere invitation to a dialogue … Haberlin’s direction is a textural feast.” – Colin Thomas, colinthomas.ca

Corpus - Opening Reception
06:30pm -08:00pm
January 26 - April 8, 2018
Opening Reception January 25, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
We're pleased to announce the opening reception of Corpus, one in a series of New Media Gallery exhibitions that explore ontological states of being. It is the first of two 2018 exhibitions to explore the future of the human body. Seven artists from Canada/Mexico, US/Brazil, UK, Germany, Israel and Belgium present work and ideas connected with becoming more or less human in a world transformed by new technologies.
The word Corpus refers to a whole. An entire body of writing: the ephemeral but whole substance of something, or the main part of an organ or structure. The word originated in the Latin, meaning the body of a human. As such it is a somewhat ironic title; all the works in the exhibition reference something that has been removed or detached from its human housing. These materials, processes and products have been dissected, memorialized, fetishized, commercialized and made other. How and what does the human body mean in a world increasingly transformed by new technologies and largely removed from what might be considered our personal or singular control?
Poetic, disturbing and playful; like us they breathe, shuffle, whine and hum. They range from the minute; a petunia seed that has been infused with the DNA of its creator Eduardo Kac. He has been called the most radical figure in the bio-design movement and in transgenic art. He uses biotechnology and genetics to create provocative works that explore and critique scientific procedure. Over six years Kac and Professor Neil Olszewski (Plant Biologist) created a new life form, a plantimal called Edunia; a genetically engineered hybrid of the artist and a petunia. The petunia flower expresses the artist’s DNA through its red veins. The seed and documentation will be part of Corpus.
For Corpus, Agi Haines is creating a new edition of an earlier award-winning work; a human-scale neural network that wanders the gallery, bumping and learning even as it seeks comfort. An MRI of the artist’s brain was taken by neuroscientists at Erasmus MC Rotterdam. This was then coded into an algorithm and imprinted on a human-scale balloon that learns about its own anatomy and environment as it moves through the space via a drone. As the drone learns, the network updates, showing us how the brain might change if it was in a completely different anatomical structure.
For more information and to RSVP to the free opening reception event please see the event's website above.

About the 2018 program:
Dickie Beau (England)
January 20 at 8pm
Club Push at Anvil Centre
Presented with Push International Peformance Festival
Versatile, vivacious and flamboyant, Dickie Beau is a drag artist extraordinaire, whose lip-synch playback performances have helped update the drag show tradition. A true innovator, he employs miming techniques and uses found sound to create hauntingly beautiful effects. This creative alchemy has made him a major force in contemporary theatre. Here the troubadour’s mask drops, and we get to know the real Dickie. Speaking in his own voice, he dishes on his artistic journey and lays bare his technique. Call it a one-man variety show.
Joseph Keckler (USA)
January 26 at 8pm
Club Push at Anvil Centre
Presented with Push International Performance Festival
Vocal virtuoso, charming raconteur, master prose stylist—Joseph Keckler is all the above and more. This artistically ambidextrous performer can boast so many talents it’s a wonder he’s so modest. Performing monologues and singing opera, torch and pop, he demonstrates a range of skills and a breadth of knowledge that might seem monumental if it weren’t put across with so much humble charm.
Cris Derksen (Canada)
February 2 at 8pm
Club Push at Anvil Centre
Presented with Push International Performance Festival
Some music simply has to be heard to be understood. You can list the constituent parts, break it down genre by genre but, in the end, analysis doesn’t come close to doing it justice; understanding the sound intellectually and experiencing it physically are two different things. Juno Nominated Cris Derksen’s cello-based music isn’t hard to describe in the abstract. After years collaborating with orchestral, folk and pop bands, Tanya Tagaq, Buffy Sainte- Marie, Kinnie Starr, E.S.L, Lightning Dust, and others, her solo work and compositions are now centred on blending Western classical and traditional pow-wow music with contemporary electronic accents. But the power of that combination, and the skill with which she pulls it off, create music that words alone can’t do justice to.
Chris Cope @ Lafflines
08:00pm -11:30pm
Chris Cope is the trailer park version of a modern Caligula. His jokes take the listener on a wonderfully hilarious journey. This album is a work of art. A masterpiece. They should sell it at the louvre. You’ll laugh at Cope’s musings on life. But, through comedy Chris finds a way to pull on your heart strings. White Trash Super Computer is blue collar comedy with edge and sophistication. Get ready world… Chris Cope is here to stay. I would rate it 10 stars if I could.
Hilarious!!!
by Venus DeMilo Thomas
This guy is one hot, up and comer!!! He is so real and raw, he is taking comedy to the next level!!!

Performing monologues and singing opera, torch and pop, he demonstrates a range of skills and a breadth of knowledge that might seem monumental if it weren’t put across with so much humble charm.
