Reclaim: Opening Reception
Lisa Jackson
Jonathan Schipper
Public Reception
Friday, November 2
6:30pm - 8:30pm
Gallery Talk: Jonathan Schipper, 7:00pm
Please join us for the opening of our 19th Exhibition, Reclaim. We are delighted to present the work of two exceptional artists: Biidaaban : First Light by Lisa Jackson, Can, (with Matthew Borrett, Jam3 and National Film Board) and Detritus by Jonathan Schipper ,USA. Jonathan will give an artist talk in the gallery at 7:00pm.
Lisa Jackson and Jonathan Schipper have created two landscapes : one in the digital realm, the other in the physical realm. Biidaaban; First Light uses virtual reality (VR) to guide you through a future, fallen city being reclaimed by nature. This renewal is seen through the lens of traditional languages — Wendat, Mohawk and Ojibway. Detritus uses mechanical + digital processes to build and rebuild a geographic terrain of mineral salt into uncanny, crystalline structures. One work reflects the value of connections, the other reflects the value of objects. Both are suggestive of the anthropocene, revealing the shadows of pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial apparatus and the systems that define past and possibly future landscapes. Each of these places describes a reclaiming of earth, time and meaning; exposing cycles of destruction and renewal.

ANGELO FERRERI (Sicily, Italy) at Magnetiq
09:00pm -02:00am
On Friday November 9, GQ Production and Soul Room Sessions invite you to one of the biggest house music events in recent memory.
Making his VANCOUVER DEBUT, we welcome the Italian house music legend:
ANGELO FERRERI (3 Hour set)
(Mood Funk | Nervous Records)
http://www.moodfunkrecords.com

With support from:
JESSE HILLS
(Nordic Trax | Elevate Entertainment)
______________________________________________________________________________
Angelo Ferreri was born in Sicily in 1984. Since an early age, he was fascinated by the world of music. He spent most of his days listening to underground radio dance programs and buying vinyl and CDs. Attracted by the techno sounds of the 90's, he started to be interested in this new world of music.
The Italian producer first started making beats on his PlayStation at the age of 12, and year after year his polished productions have caught the ear of tastemakers across the globe.
Having being voted the #1 best Jackin House Artist of 2017 by Traxsource, it's pretty safe to say that nearly every house music DJ worth their salt had an Angelo Ferreri joint on repeat in 2017.
In 2018 he has been busy touring all over the world, showcasing his talents at the Flyaway Festival in Croatia, Body Heat Party in Milan Italy, Defected Croatia, Nervous Records Showcase in New York, Music & The End of Way in Czech Republic, and Amsterdam Dance Event in Amsterdam.
We are absolutely thrilled to have him in Vancouver on his first ever Canadian tour making his FIRST EVER Vancouver appearance!
His labels Mood Funk and Monoside have been a consistent source of some of the best house music in the scene during 2017, with releases from the likes of David Penn, DJ Mes, Re-Tide, Hatiras, Moon Rocket, Jay Vegas, Alessio Cala', Danny Cruz, Mark Funk to name but a few.
Angelo has that innate ability to create tracks where you instantly know who’s at the controls from the first beat. You’d be hard pressed to find a more prolific and hardworking producer in the house music scene at the moment, and that’s why it wasn’t a hard decision to name Angelo Ferreri the Number One Jackin House Artist of 2017.
We are stoked to present this absolutely brilliant artist to the house music scene in Vancouver!
This is a CANT BE MISSED event!

John Stetch @ Old Crow
Stetch grew up in the clean and cold suburbs of Edmonton, and was heavily involved in the Ukrainian community which is so rich in the Canadian prairies. Half a century ago, his Grandmother Savella wrote the definitive Ukrainian cookbook, and Grandfather Julian wrote the definitive Ukrainian Grammar textbook which was used in many universities. At age 9, John was given his father Myron's clarinet along with some lessons. There were many jazz records in the home and his dad tuned in to the local jazz radio station whenever they drove anywhere. Stetch played in a Ukrainian wedding band for many years which led to one of his most praised albums "Ukrainianism". In his late teens, Stetch became fascinated by the rhythmic and harmonic possibilities and overall beauty and completeness of the piano, and in his late teens, switched to it and managed to attain a music degree from McGill University a few years after.
In 1993 he moved to NYC where he became the pianist in Rufus Reid's band, while living with roommate Seamus Blake. He found a classical teacher that changed his life - Burton Hatheway, (now 88 years old) who studied with Dora Zaslawski at the Manhattan School of Music. Burton's students of note include 3-time Grammy winner Lisa Kaplan and rising star Felix Jarrar.
When recording albums or booking tours in the 90's, Stetch collaborated with greats such as Jeff Ballard, Mark Turner, Chris Cheek, Joe Martin, Jorge Rossy, Mike Murley, Rodney Green, and Bill McHenry. Out of 15 CDs, 6 were Juno nominated, including "TV Trio" which contains re-arranged TV themes, and Off With The Cuffs which features Stetchs radical re-interpretations of Chopin, Bach, Mozart and Shostakovich.
Steinway Artist Stetch now divides his time between Vancouver, where his partner Joanna is, and NYC where his flagship group is VulneraVille", featuring Steve Kortyka, Ben Tiberio and Philippe Lemm. Says Stetch: "Never before have I had such great chemistry and devotion".
