In between the speeches PopLuckers and candidates will have a chance to break bread together and talk about one of the biggest issues facing our city. HOUSING! To help with the conversation, our friends at Yes In New West are crowdsourcing housing related questions from the community that we’ll display around the market to give the community and candidates a chance to post their answers. Be sure to check them out on Facebook and Twitter (@YesInNewWest) to get your questions in.
Bring some food to share (as the market vendors will be closed) on our foldable table and enjoy some lively conversation with your neighbours and candidates!

River Walk for Hospice
05:00pm -07:30pm
You’re invited! Join us for our annual fundraising and friend-raising event, RiverWalk for Hospice on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, Saturday, October 13.
This year’s world-wide theme is, ‘Because I matter’, chosen to emphasize the human right of proper end of life care for all around the world. This year is the 100th anniversary of the modern hospice movement founded by Dame Cicely Saunders in London, England. Her famous quote sums up hospice philosophy of care that ‘you matter because you are you’.
World Hospice and Palliative Care Day’s purpose is to promote a collective vision to increase the availability of hospice and palliative care throughout the world; raise awareness and understanding of the medical, social, practical and spiritual needs of people living with life limiting illness; and raise funds to support and develop hospice and palliative care services around the world.
All funds raised at our Walk from the River Market to the W at Pier Park and back will be used in New Westminster supporting people at end of life who choose to stay in their homes via our Compassionate City Crew volunteers and also supporting people who have experienced grief from a loss through death. The majority of the funds raised at this River Walk for Hospice will allow us to begin our bereavement group support program this winter with a Bereavement Walking Group, walking as we share stories and support each other’s journeys.
For more information and to register your walking team now, please visit the event's website above.

Read MoreChamber Networking Event @ Network Hub
The Network Hub will be hosting our monthly Networking Event during Small Business Week.
Our New Westminster workspace sits right on the quay, offering sweeping panoramic views of the Fraser River and beyond. It’s a terrific place to find the inspiration that you seek, offering a much more nurturing environment than that of a stark and stuffy office with nothing more than views of other stark and stuffy offices. And when you need a break, an urban park with a beach is literally just outside the door.
Whether you simply need to hotdesk for a few hours or you are seeking a more permanent solution, our New Westminster location puts you in the heart of the action.
Each networking event hosts a different theme with a different activity creating a unique atmosphere and fresh vibe. Located at a different business throughout the city, our monthly networking events are a fun opportunity to network with other businesses while enjoying an after-work drink, entertainment, and snacks.
Hosted by the New West Chamber of Commerce. Register now via the event's website above.

Arsenic and Old Lace
12:00am -01:00am
ANVIL CENTRE - October 18, 19 & 20
A classic black-comedy and a Broadway hit starring Boris Karloff before it was adapted for film with Cary Grant, for our version we have reunited the ‘Terrible Trio’ – Jaqueline Becher, Michael Charrois and Steve Weller – who were the extremely odd cousins in our version of ‘Dark and Stormy Night’. This time they are two dotty sisters and their very scary and menacing nephew who comes to visit, complete with his crazy sidekick plastic surgeon. Bodies all over the place, the Panama canal being dug in the basement, another nephew who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and a cop who wants to be a playwright – just a few of the zany happenings in this perfect Hallowe’en treat.
Some slightly scary situations – suitable for older children.

RCLAS Writing Workshop: Using Tarot in Your Writing
01:00pm -03:00pm
RCLAS Writing Workshop:
“Using Tarot in Your Writing” Facilitator: Isabella Mori
Date: Saturday October 27, 2018 Time: 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Location: Anvil Centre, Rm #413A
Workshop Fees: RCLAS Members $15/Non-members $25
Pay via Paypal here: https://rclas.com/workshops/
Description: Any image can be a fabulous tool to move you forward in your writing. But there’s something special about Tarot, because it is in its very nature to suggest meaning and to tell a story.
In this workshop, we will use a number of techniques, from using a card as a simple prompt to getting the cards to suggest to you ways to deal with any difficulties you may have in your writing life. You can bring your own tarot cards but don’t have to; Isabella will bring a wide variety of images inspired by her collection of 60+ decks.
Writers of all striped are often looking for ways to jump-start their writing, or to overcome blockages. The rich and symbol-laden imagery of tarot – an intuitive language in itself – can address these issues in many different ways. Isabella will bring a wide variety of tarot images from well-known decks like the Rider-Waite, the Thoth and traditional Marseille-type decks to abstract and obscure ones, like the Langustl (abstract), Amano (Anime) or Tarot of Eden (cryptozoic).
Examples of exercises:
• A card as an image for a simple free-write
• Using one or more cards (a “spread”) to tell a story
• Interviewing a card, spread or deck
• Writing a haiku from inspired by a 3-card spread
• Using specific cards to better understand a character (e.g. the Justice card to understand a detective in a mystery)
• Using tarot to reflect on our writing
Discussions will include a short introduction to the Tarot (including revising the somewhat limiting notion that tarot is only for “fortune telling”).
Author’s Bio
Isabella Mori is a mother, grandmother, wife, friend, sister. She also writes: poetry, novels, short stories and non-fiction and has published two books of and about poetry, a bagful of haiku – 87 imperfections, and isabella mori’s teatable book. She has published and blogged over 1,000 articles online and in traditional media. She lives in Vancouver, Canada, in a way-too-big house, enjoys being surrounded by houseplants, and takes long walks. She grew up in Germany in a chaotic artists’ household and has lived in Paraguay and Chile. Isabella has a Masters Degree in Education and works in the mental health/addiction field. She has been friendly with tarot cards since 1995, when she used them in her first-ever psychology research project.
