Seed Swap Event!

With food and gas prices so high, The Refill Stop wanted to do an event to promote community sharing, and maybe swap some tips about city/urban gardening with other like-minded people. The event is free! Well....bring some seeds!
Here's how it works.
1) Bring any seeds you do not need, please package any seeds with labels/year purchased if you no longer have the original package.
2) A round table will be set up at the front of the shop A-Z, flowers on one side, veggies on the other
3) Leave with what you need to encourage sharing
What to Bring:
Containers & markers so you can take what you need and leave what you do not need for others

Vancouver Chamber Music Society Presents: Jinjoo Cho

Violinist Jinjoo Cho is redefining what is means to be a classical artists in the 21st Century as a charismatic soloist, dynamic and engaging chamber musician, dedicated teacher, innovative artistic director, and published writer.
Jinjoo’s technical and artistic skills have been tested and proved as 1st Prize Winner of the world’s most prestigious competitions such as the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis and Concours musical international de Montréal. In addition to the Buenos Aires, Schoenfeld, and Stullberg Competitions. A passionate teacher, Jinjoo is on the violin faculty at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University and has previously taught at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Oberlin Conservatory. She is also the Founding Artistic Director of ENCORE Chamber Music Institute, an intensive summer training program for talented young performers in Cleveland, and regularly gives master classes worldwide. Jinjoo now lives in Montreal with her toy poodle, Miso, and enjoys visiting art galleries, collecting kitchen magnets and stationeries, and listening to Indie Rock in her spare time.

Devil's Violin (ft. JinJoo Cho) - Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 3:00PM

Thought to be the quintessential musician of the 21st Century, Jinjoo Cho will take the stage with long-time collaborator, pianist Hyun Soo Kim, on Sunday April 10 at 3:00PM in New Westminster. After her debut at the age of seven, Ms. Cho has gone on to win a plethora of competitions including the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis accompanied by Hyun Soo Kim. The New York Concert Review described her as having “brilliant technique, musicality, passion, intelligence, flair, and an engaging stage presence.” Tickets to see this legendary combination are $38 for general admission and only $20 for students.
The title of this program, Devil's Violin, is inspired by the conspiracy theory that Paganini's insane virtuosity was granted to him through a pact with the devil. Jinjoo Cho's incredible technique and artistry will be showcased through late Romantic masterpieces including the works of Debussy, Sarasate, and Ysaÿe. The program concludes with Saint-Saëns' famous Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 28 which he dedicated to Sarasate who was a virtuoso violinist. The dazzling showstopper is a perfect balance between expressive lyricism and scampering flourishes.

This month, we’re celebrating the amazing diversity of plant life that call the Fraser River Basin home. Join us to learn about some of BC's native plants, create your own plant designs using colourful felt pieces, and contribute your voice on how to protect BC's plants in our Wishing Tree community art project! Please note that this activity is aimed at children between the ages of 6-11.

River Basin Days: Vancouver City Nature Challenge!

River Basin Days is a series of outdoor public programs for families, organized by the Fraser River Discovery Centre. Join us at different locations around the Fraser River Basin as we explore this incredible watershed!
This month’s River Basin Days workshop will be part of the City Nature Challenge, a global bioblitz where cities compete to see who can observe the most nature in a four-day period. Every observation submitted helps Greater Vancouver win, but more importantly, helps scientists around the world learn more about biodiversity.
So join us on April 30th at Brae Island Regional Park in Langley Township as we look for wildlife, and submit observations to iNaturalist. Guided walks will be from 12:30 – 1:30, and 2:00 – 3:00.

Beethoven’s Complete Cello Sonatas
One of the most significant artists of our time, Gary Hoffman, along with his long-time collaborator David Selig, takes us on a journey through the musical career of Beethoven. Beethoven’s five sonatas for cello and piano evenly span Beethoven’s long career from an emphasis on form and structure to deeply probing emotional expression, and transcendental technical difficulty.
Gary Hoffman, is one of the outstanding cellists of our time, combining instrumental mastery, great beauty of sound, and a poetic sensibility. He gained international renown upon his victory as the first North American to win the Rostropovich International Competition in Paris in 1986.
"Gary hoffman’s style is characterised by fullness of sound, instrumental mastery and exceptional artistic sensibility."
He is a frequent soloist with the world’s most notable orchestras including the Chicago, London, Montreal, and National symphony orchestras, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and many others. He has collaborated with such celebrated conductors as André Previn, Charles Dutoit, Mstislav Rostropovich, Pinchas Zukerman, Andrew Davis, Herbert Blomstedt, Kent Nagano, Jesús López-Cobos, and James Levine. He performs in major recital and chamber music series throughout the world, as well as at such prestigious festivals as Ravinia, Marlboro, Aspen, Bath, Evian, Helsinki, Verbier, Mostly Mozart, Schleswig-Holstein, Stresa, Festival International de Colmar, and Festival de Toulon. He is a frequent guest of string quartets including the Emerson, Tokyo, Borromeo, Brentano, and Ysaye.
David Selig is an international sensation who regularly performs in France, the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland as well as in the USA and the Far East. His love of chamber music has led him to collaborate with many renowned artists including Philippe Graffin, Marc Coppey, Régis Pasquier, Jane Peters and Noël Lee. A recording with Gary Hoffman of works by Mendelssohn was released in 2012 on the Dolce Volta label.
