Music by the River is back! Presented by the Downtown New West BIA and the City of New Westminster with support from the Arts Council of New Westminster and Tourism New Westminster.
This weeks performer is Tissa Rahim, accompanied by Alvin Brendan. Tissa Rahim is an RnB songstress with a Middle Eastern flare. Tissa combines modern soul with her multi-generational background in Iranian music and deeply personal lyrics. With a 40-city North American tour under her belt, Tissa’s upcoming releases are certain to capture the attention of the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
So come by to the festival lawn this Thursday from 6pm-8:30pm. That area of Pier Park is licensed, so grab some take-out and cool beverages and come enjoy the tunes!

RiverFest: Celebrate the Fraser

The Fraser River Discovery Centre, located on the New Westminster Boardwalk, is very excited to announce the return of RiverFest for its 19th year! Presented by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, RiverFest is a FREE family-friendly festival coinciding with BC and World Rivers Day. This year, RiverFest will take place between September 21st to 28th, and features a variety of in-person and on-line activities hosted by the Discovery Centre. It’s a great way to welcome the arrival of fall along the beautiful Fraser River!
From outdoor activities in Lower Hume Park to the always-popular exhibitor expo & the return of the Lucille Johnstone Workboat Parade, RiverFest 2021 is sure to be an engaging and enjoyable experience for all ages!
COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place for all in-person activities, and the Discovery Centre will adhere to all PHO mandates to ensure the safety of all participants, staff, and volunteers.

This is an outdoor event right in front of Rain City Juicery (417 Front Street) . Drink and food will be available at the kiosk at Rain City Juicery , multiple art and clothing Vendors, hair cuts from Tiger Mobile Tiger Grooming and more…
We will also have a U.C.A.S.S. Musician Swap Meet which will be held at 431 Front, just a hop skip and a jump from the outdoor location performance stage for all to visit and browse our studio.
We encourage all who attend to dig deep into their pockets to donate whatever they can to this fundraiser in order for more of these events to be able to continue.
We look forward seeing each and everyone of you.

RiverFest: Birds of the Fraser Estuary with Dr. Rob Butler

This September, as part of its annual RiverFest celebration, the Fraser River Discovery Centre is delighted to welcome back Dr. Rob Butler for a presentation on migratory birds arriving in the Fraser Estuary this fall!
The Fraser River is home to a diverse range of migratory and resident birds throughout the year. As the days grow cooler and shorter, the river Estuary becomes a temporary rest-stop for thousands of migratory bird sheading South along the Pacific Flyway. To discuss this mass migration, we’re excited to welcome back ornithologist, author, filmmaker, and artist Dr. Rob Butler for a virtual presentation on Tuesday, September 28th.
This is a great way to welcome our feathered friends and celebrate the marvelous biodiversity along the Fraser River!
This presentation will take place on-line, via Zoom. Registration is free, but donations to the FRDC are welcome! After registering on Eventbrite, you will receive a link to the Zoom meeting on Sept 28th. See more at the event's website above.
