06:00pm -08:30pm
Music by the River is back! Presented by the Downtown New West BIA and the City of New Westminster with support from the Arts Council of New Westminster and Tourism New Westminster.
Old soul Dougie Greig blends soaring melodies and heartfelt Lyrics.
From humble beginnings he began songwriting at a young age, touring with rock bands across the UK, culminating in a tour as the vocalist for Dave ‘Bucket’ Colwell of ‘Bad Co.’ fame, selected for his powerful vocals.
Dougie’s debut album “Black Water Son” (2013) was raw, a young man returning to his roots as one man, a guitar and lyrics that showed a maturity beyond his years.
In search of new inspiration Scottish born Dougie has traversed the globe, collecting stories and landed in Vancouver, Canada where he is quickly making a name for himself as a powerful, heartfelt and dynamic indie folk songwriter.
He’s recently showcased at Folk Alliance 2021, Folk Unlocked.
Dougie is proud to have played a sold out show in iconic Scottish Venue, King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, played festivals including Belladrum UK, Summerset BC, The Edininburgh Fringe festival, Porchfest, BC and supported Gerry Cinnamon in the UK. Dougie is proud to have been nominated for the SAMAs (Scottish Alternative Music Awards) for his songwriting and live performance. Dougie is honoured to be a Godin Guitars Artist here in Canada and previously represented Tanglewood guitars as an ambassador in the UK.
His anticipated new release is currently in the works and he’ll debut his first single to Canadian radio in fall 2021.
Here’s some nice things people have said about Dougie.
“Songs that will break peoples hearts”
-Judy Stakee, Songwriting Mentor
(Former Head of Creative, Warner Chappell, signed Sheryl Crow, Katy Perry)
“Wow, that voice! It’s like you have a built in amplifier, love the tone.
Love the song. That’s how to showcase.”
-Paul Hinrichs,
(BC Touring Council, Artistic Director Kaslo Jazz Festival)
So come by to the festival lawn this Thursday from 6pm-8:30pm. That area of Pier Park is licensed, so grab some take-out and cool beverages and come enjoy the tunes!
AIDA RODRIGUEZ at House of Comedy
07:30pm -08:30pm
Aida Rodriguez is a new Afro-Latina, taking the world of entertainment by storm with her wit, strong performances, and charismatic personality. Making history as the first Latina to appear in two specials airing in one month on both HBO and Showtime, Rodriguez was handpicked by director Taylor Hackford for his film “The Comedian” starring Robert De Niro. In 2017, Coca Cola Global Women’s LINC Conference sponsored Rodriguez’s speech that modeled a TED Talk. Rodriguez has also appeared on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show, five-time host of the PBS Imagen Awards, NBC's Last Comic Standing finals, TRUtv’s Laff Tracks, Fox Laughs, Nickelodeon Mom’s Night Out and Parental Discretion.
Aida Rodriguez wears many hats as comedian, actress, writer and mother. Sharing her point of view of the world, she writes comedy that is poignant and incisive. Her audiences often laugh hard, think hard, and feel hard as her comedy is cathartic and confrontational. Known as Funny Aida, Rodriguez aims to challenge the norms of today and the discomfort or taboo-quality around controversial topics like race, gender, sexuality, and family dynamics through her comedy. From the moment she takes the stage, the audience is engaged whether in laughter or in thought. Rodriguez’s comedy is not only medicine for the soul, but it may one day just change the world.

Ryley & Kaylar at Music By The River
06:00pm -08:30pm
Music by the River is back! Presented by the Downtown New West BIA and the City of New Westminster with support from the Arts Council of New Westminster and Tourism New Westminster.
This week's performers are Ryley and Kaylar.
With a decade of performing in bands, writing music, and scoring films together, Ryley & Kaylar have become one of Vancouver's most prominent music duos and experts of vibe. Together they delight in throwing every genre into the blender, including jazz, RnB, funk, blues, hip-hop, classical, and pop, then turning the dial to maximum. The result is an intimate and relaxing reimagining of stripped down favourites from across the ages.
When not performing across the lower mainland as an instrumental duo, the two are often found lighting up the stage with funk/rock atomic dance party, Raincity.
So come by to the festival lawn this Thursday from 6pm-8:30pm. That area of Pier Park is licensed, so grab some take-out and cool beverages and come enjoy the tunes!
IAN BAGG at House of Comedy
07:00pm -08:00pm
Ian Bagg is a world touring comedian and the host of the weekly podcast, “Ian Bagg Bought a House”. His quick wit, off-the-cuff antics, playful conversation and fast paced crowd work has earned him spots on some of the best stages in the world.
Early on in his life he discovered a love for hockey. Pro hockey, junior hockey, or just a bunch of kids getting together to skate around would satisfy him. At one point he tried hockey camps and knew that he had no chance to make it. One of the most valuable things that he learned from chirping players on the bench, bus or the locker room was that he was funny. That is where his extraordinary talent for humor began his comedy adventure.
Flying over 100,000 air miles per year, life has been amazing for this energetic and wildly funny boundary pushing entertainer. These qualities earned Bagg a top-5 finish on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”, where he performed a national tour. Aside from touring, he’s been on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, “The Tonight Show”, Adam Corolla Show, WTF with Marc Maron, and The Wrap Up Show on Howard Stern.
While bringing his love of comedy and hockey together, Ian has performed multiple collaborative NHL Alumni shows for teams such as the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bagg has also been featured on the History Channel, the Food Network and the Biography Channel. His most recent one-hour specials are “Ian Bagg: Getting to F**king Know You” that airs on Showtime and “Conversations”, available on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play. Stand-up comedy is Ian’s personal journey – fans of his don’t want to miss a single show, because no two shows are alike.

Super Saturday: Pollinator Party!
10:00am -04:00pm
The Fraser River Discovery Centre, located in Downtown New Westminster, is excited to present its next edition of the ongoing 'Super Saturdays' family program, taking place on Saturday, August 28th from 10am – 4pm.
Taking place on the last Saturday of every month, Super Saturdays is a series of family-friendly public programs that explore life along the Fraser River with activities and crafts!
This August, we invite you to join us as we celebrate some of the Fraser Watershed’s most important inhabitants – pollinators! From bees to butterflies to bats, these critters all play an important role in keeping the plant-life of the watershed flowering and beautiful – without them, riverside ecosystems would be in big trouble! We’ll be learning about some of the pollinators that live in the watershed, learning why they’re so important, and building our very own Mason Bee Houses!
Appropriate for families with children aged 6 – 11. COVID-19 Safety protocols are in effect, and pre-registration is required for this activity. Learn more about this family program here: https://fraserriverdiscovery.org/super-saturdays/
